The Department of Tourism, Government of West Bengal initiated “West Bengal Tourist Guide Certification Scheme” for the selection, training and Certification of West Bengal Tourist Guides conducted at the District level under PBSSD (Paschim Banga Society for Skill Development) Utkarsh Bangla through the Department of Technical Education and “Centre For Skill Development in Tourism” as Knowledge Partner / Training Provider / Training Centre which has been designed to equip candidates with basic knowledge and skills required by a tourist guide during their discharge of duties.

However, the Chamber’s origins date back to 1833 when its founding forefathers came together to form the first association of its kind in the country, which was later formalized as the Bengal Chamber.
